Week 2

I had to give my first talk completely in Spanish this Sunday! It was only 5 minutes but i thought it went pretty well for my first talk in spanish.
On another note, for P-day last week we played soccer, volleyball, and basketball with a bunch of guys after we emailed our families. One thing that was really funny is me and my companion joined a soccer game that was 8vs8, and it was gringos (Americans) on one team and Mexicans(Latinos) on the other team. Apparently the mexicans always win by a lot, and that´s why they always want to play against the Americans. The game lasted for like 45 minutes and i scored 3 goals and we ended up winning 4-1, which was the first win the Americans have had in a while haha. They all asked me if i played for a university but i told them i just played in Highschool. They are all really good at ball handling and juggling, but they don´t know much about strategy and playing smart, probably because they never played on organized teams like me. The mexicans all called me ¨Manchester¨ because I was wearing a Manchester United soccer jersey and now everytime they see me at lunch they come over and they still call me Manchester.
There isn´t much wildlife here but there are TONS of birds. When we were sitting outside the classroom there were like 20 birds going crazy in a short palm tree. They were pretty annoying after a while so we went over to scare them, and all but one bird flew away. It was flapping its wings and trying to get away but it was stuck. We got on a chair and looked at it, and somehow it skewered itself on a palm tree branch-leaf thing! We slid it off the branch and it flew away, but we still have no idea how it managed to skewer itself on a branch haha. Too bad we didn´t get a picture, we can only have our cameras at our houses or on P-day, so we don´t get to use our cameras often.
Today for P-day we went to the temple! The most exciting part of that was driving through Mexico City for about 2 hours. You don´t know bad traffic until you´ve been in Mexico City. There are people using wheelbarrows in the middle of the street, there are people just walking in the middle of traffic for whatever reason, dogs are everywhere just roaming the streets, one was even laying down right in the center lane just chilling there. Almost every car we saw had dents or paint chipping off because they drive pretty crazy down here. There are soooo many people in the city, if there was any sort of zombie apocalypse or something Mexico City would be the worst place to be for sure.
One last note about Mexico, it rains A LOT this time of year. A couple nights ago it rained so hard we had a lake in the street in front of our house. If you all want to see pictures, i´m going to be sending pictures to my parents and they will put it on my blog since it´s kind of hard to send pictures over email. My blog link should be on my facebook, if not it will be soon!
I miss back home but this is where i´m supposed to be!
See you all in like 102 weeks!

Week 1 - First week at the MTC

Hey everyone! I´ve been at the MTC for a week now and it feels like i´ve been here for forever since we are so busy. We wake up at 6:30 and go to bed at 10:30 every day and we have like 45 minutes everyday to do whatever we want so it is pretty structured. It´s a little weird to have to be with your companion all the time and it´ll definitely take some getting used to.
There´s not much excitement over here at the MTC, we basically study, eat and study some more. Mexico City is crazy though!! Mexico was playing in the world cup on monday and we knew Mexico scored 3 times because every time they scored there would be cannons, fireworks, cheering, screaming and just tons of noise in general. It´s safe here at the MTC because we have a 15 foot cement/barbwire fence that completely surrounds the MTC. At night, we have to close all the windows because we´re in the middle of the City and there is tonnnnnns of honking and music and parties outside the walls at night. Fun fact, there are no stoplights in Mexico City. Driving here would be craycray.
Every day there has been a thunder/lightning storm around dinner time and the thunder is the loudest thunder i have ever heard. Sometimes the Thunder sets off all the car alarms in the city it´s so loud.
The food is amazing, and they have rice and beans for lunch and dinner everyday and they are the best. Learning spanish is really fun because it goes super fast. There are 11 other missionaries in my class and only like 6 of them have taken spanish classes before and they are struggling a ton because ever since the first day the teacher has only spoken spanish and i don´t even know if she can speak english. Luckily i´ve had 3 years of spanish or i would be completely lost. On the second day of class we had to teach a 25 minute lesson to a fake investigator completely in spanish, which was really stressful. Luckily we have Gym time everyday because it´s nice to have a break and play beach volleyball or kickball or basketball!
Another thing that is super stressful is on the third day me and my companion were called as district leaders and we had/still have no idea what we´re doing so that´s fun... There is already a lot of stuff to learn but we need to learn/do even more as district leaders. Anyways, the MTC is pretty difficult but it´s getting easier now, and i can already have conversations with the latinos so we´re learning really fast! We only have an hour to email so this is all i can say for now! i have pictures but i need to figure out how to upload them because the computers don´t ready SD cards. Later Sk8ters
